FOT-Net is holding its first stakeholder workshop on 25 September 2008 at the ERTICO-ITS Europe premises In Brussels. ‘Field Operational Tests’ (FOT) is a comprehensive research programme to assess the impact of ICT systems on driver behaviour, both in terms of individual (safety) benefits and larger scale socio-economic benefits. These tests have mostly been carried out at the national level in the past, but there is now a growing need to incorporate FOTs into a common European framework. The FOT-Net project’s primary objective is to establish a platform for knowledge exchange and for strategic networking of existing and future National, European and international FOTs (e.g. US and Japan), and to let individual FOTs benefit from each others’ learning experiences.
The workshop will present the FOT-net project activities, explain how to take part in it and provide an overview of the existing FOT activities throughout Europe. The aim of the workshop will be to present the common “FESTA” (Field opErational teSt supporT Action) methodology, and identify the open issues arising when organising a FOT.
Open to all stakeholders from public and private sectors, the FOT-Net networking platform will provide a benchmarking overview of the socio-economic potential of ICT based functions and systems for road transport all over Europe. The project will also contribute to improving the significance, visibility, comparability and transferability of available FOT results at the National and European level by promoting the implementation of a common European FOT methodology: The FESTA results.
All stakeholder groups that play or will play an active and relevant role in existing and future National, European and Global FOTs are invited to become involved in this initiative.
