The second Satcoms in Support of Transport on European Roads (SISTER) project workshop will be held over 24 to 25 June 2009 in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. During the workshop different uses of satellite communication in ITS applications will be demonstrated, including:
o eCall
o Road user charging
o Dangerous and valuable goods management
o Digital map updates.
Demonstrations during the workshop will aim to show how satellite broadcasts can be used for value-added services and applications. The demonstrations will also show how existing services can be enhanced by bi-directional satellite systems to complement terrestrial coverage. Additionally, explanations will be given on how to improve system reliability where message delivery time is critical.
The SISTER integrated system can provide connectivity to a number of applications. The project studied how different communication platforms can work together to provide superior connectivity capabilities.
